Why we use silk

Silk is a timeless fabric, prized for its luxurious feel, elegant drape, and natural beauty. We chose it for its unmatched ability to make you feel good—luxurious yet breathable, with the added benefit of being hypoallergenic. To enhance comfort, especially on warmer days, we’ve thoughtfully designed some pieces with a touch of ultra-light cotton where the silk touches your skin, avoiding any stickiness while maintaining a refined, luxurious finish.

Why silk deserves special care

Silk is a natural protein fiber, making it strong yet delicate. Its smooth texture and light-reflecting qualities make it both stunning and sensitive. While durable when treated with care, silk can be vulnerable to harsh detergents, heat, and excessive moisture.

Why it’s worth it

Caring for your Lore Buta silk pieces ensures they remain as luminous and luxurious as when you first wore them. Silk’s unmatched elegance is a testament to its craftsmanship and your mindful care. Treating your dress with love not only extends its life but also upholds our shared commitment to sustainable, thoughtful fashion.

Washing your silk

Handwashing is best

  • Fill a basin with cool or lukewarm water and add a few drops of a pH-neutral detergent or a silk-specific wash. Avoid bleach and harsh detergents, which can damage the fibers.
  • Gently swish your Lore Buta piece in the water for no more than 5 minutes. Do not rub or wring the fabric, as this can cause damage.
  • Rinse thoroughly with cool water until all soap is removed.

Professional dry cleaning:

  • For intricate designs, stubborn stains, or when in doubt, we recommend taking your Lore Buta silk piece to a professional dry cleaner who specializes in delicate fabrics. This ensures your garment is handled with the care it deserves while preserving its longevity and beauty

Machine washing (only if the first 2 options are not available to you): If handwashing isn’t possible, place your silk piece in a mesh laundry bag and use a delicate cycle with cold water. Use a detergent specifically designed for silk and select a low spin setting to prevent stretching.

Drying your silk

  • Do not tumble dry: Heat from dryers can weaken silk fibers and cause shrinkage.
  • Air dry flat: Lay your dress on a clean towel, gently roll to remove excess water, then reshape it and lay flat on a drying rack away from direct sunlight or heat sources. Hanging silk while wet can cause stretching.

Ironing and steaming

  • Low heat only: If your Lore Buta piece is wrinkled, use a cool iron or a silk setting on your iron. Place a pressing cloth between the iron and the silk to protect the fabric.
  • Steaming: A handheld steamer is a gentle alternative to remove wrinkles. Keep the steamer at a safe distance to avoid water spots.

Storing your silk

  • Keep it cool and dry: Store silk garments in a cool, dry place away from sunlight to prevent fading and weakening.
  • Use Breathable covers: Instead of plastic bags, opt for breathable cotton garment bags to protect your dress while allowing airflow.
  •  Avoid moth damage: Add a natural moth repellent, like cedar or lavender sachets, to your storage area.

Tip for longevity

Rotate usage - avoid wearing your silk pieces consecutively to allow the fabric to recover its natural shape.

Eco-friendly tips

  • You probably don't need to wash your clothes as much as you think you do - the natural fibers in silk have excellent properties that will prolong the time you can wear it without washing - silk is moisture-wicking and anti-bacterial. Spot clean and hand wash to limit water consumption.
  • Air dry your, never tumble dry.
  • Use an environmentally friendly dry cleaner.
